What is YILx?

To achieve the mission of the (Young Innovation Leaders) YIL Fellowship — to raise leaders who can inspire, initiate, manage and lead innovation in their spheres — we have decided to expand our platform and distribute this opportunity to more young people in Africa. This is the reason for YILx.

We aim to create strong cohorts of skilled individuals in every single community in Africa who will administer Africa’s solutions, one challenge at a time, and one community at a time.

How Does it Work?

The YILx programme will be employing the “STIP” strategy: Select, Train, Innovate, and Pitch

Selection:

50 Participants are selected from each featured country. Participants are selected based on their interest in either of the 2 training tracks: inventive track and institutional track.

Inventive Track: Provide solutions to a given social/ developmental problem.

Institutional Track: Provide solution to a problem of an existing organisation.

Training:

Participants will be trained on how to solve problems through application of innovation concepts which will be taught in the programme.

Innovation:

Applicants are divided into teams based on their selected tracks.

Pitch:

Teams pitch their solutions to a panel of experts.

YIL is a solution oriented fellowship, where the fellows are taken through the process of building a solution from the scratch. I've been privilege to be part of TEF program for example, where you will need to have a business or at least a scalable idea before you can enroll. With YIL all you just need to be part of the fellowship is a demonstration that you are smart and passionate enough to solve a pressing problem. YIL fellowship will take you through a process to discover yourself and help you to realize your capacity to solve problem even when you don't have the idea of the problem to solve.
