About
GENVIO
Gender-Based Violence is violence directed against a person because of that person’s gender, or violence that affects persons of a particular gender disproportionately. Gender-based violence can take different forms and mostly affects women and girls. Although women and girls are the main victims of GBV, it also causes severe harm to families and communities. According to the World Bank statistics, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is a global pandemic that affects 1 in 3 women in their lifetime. 1 in 3 women and girls will face physical or sexual violence in their lifetime (World Health Organisation, 2013). 1 in 9 girls and 1 in 53 boys under the age of 18 have experienced sexual abuse or assault at the hands of a trusted adult. According to research conducted by UNFPA, about 200 million women worldwide have experienced female genital mutilation. 1 in 2 girls/women have been harassed sexually, 1 out of 3 of them have experienced physical and/or sexual violence, and 1 in 20 women have been raped. The effects of child sexual abuse can be long-lasting and affect the victim’s physical and mental health, and emotional well-being. For this reason, we have created for you, the GENVIO Board Game, and this Directory of Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) and Gender-Based Violence Responders in Nigeria. Welcome to GENVIO Board and Card Game! It’s a fun and interactive way for both children and adults to learn about gender-based violence and how to prevent it. The game helps us understand different situations and make smart decisions to create a safer world. The GENVIO BOARD AND CARD GAME is a great way to start conversations about how to respond in challenging gender-based violence situations. This also serves as a teaching game. GENVIO helps children and adults learn about gender-based violence and how to prevent it, creating awareness and players to make a positive impact, while having fun. Disclaimer: The game offers suggestions but is not responsible for preventing violence or the actions resulting from it. Remember, the main goal is to have fun, learn, and work together to create a world free from gender-based violence
